Key Sustainable Actions
Waste
Waste Reduction Practices
Waste Reduction - Sustainable Princeton believes that no action is too small to help make our community more sustainable. - Sustainable Princeton prints double sided and in B&W unless necessary, uses electronic communication as often as possible, and does not print copies of information for meetings unless requested. - By using an in-office compost bin, SP reduces waste by a pound of food waste per week. 1 pound * 50 weeks = 50 pounds of food waste reduced per year. We also save $1.75 for composting every year. - Sustainable Princeton strives to make each event we organize a zero-waste event. We require that food vendors provide service wear that is recyclable or compostable, Leftover food is given to attendees to take home or gets composted.

Waste Recycling
Sustainable Princeton recycles all of its office paper, cardboard and printer toner cartridges. - Our office is a drop off location for plastic bags and films that are collected, transported to McCaffrey's of Princeton where the material is shipped to a company called Trex which recycles it into outdoor decking material.
Waste Reuse Practices
Sustainable Princeton strives to reuse as much material as possible and support the circular economy by purchasing products made from recycled materials. - We recycle printer paper or reuse it as scrap paper and do not print unless necessary. - We purchase recycled printer cartridges. - We purchase 100% recycled printer paper. - When possible, we print promotional materials on paper with recycled content. For example, Sustainable Princeton mailed a paper recycling brochure to approximately 7,000 households in Princeton. The brochure was printed on paper with the highest recycled content suitable for the brochure.
Food Waste Reduction Practices
Sustainable Princeton collects its food scraps in the office, and the scraps are fed to an employee's backyard chickens. 1lb./week x 52 weeks = 52 lbs. food scraps diverted from the landfill.
